Here are some tips to help you prepare adequately and get the most out of this shared experience!

1. Prior Physical Preparation.

Before running, it’s important to prepare your body. Here are some recommendations:

  • Gradual training: If you’re not used to running, start with short distances and gradually increase your weekly mileage. Alternate running days with rest days to avoid injuries.
  • Muscle strengthening: Dedicate time to strength exercises to strengthen your muscles, especially those in your legs. This will help you improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Stretching: Include a stretching routine before and after running. Dynamic stretching before running activates the muscles, while static stretching afterward helps with recovery.

2. Hydration and Nutrition.

Staying well-hydrated and nourished is essential for optimal performance:

  • Hydration: Drink water regularly in the days leading up to the race. On the day of the event, make sure you’re well-hydrated, but avoid drinking large amounts right before the race to avoid feeling heavy.
  • Balanced diet: Consume complex carbohydrates (rice, pasta, whole grain bread) and lean proteins (chicken, fish, legumes) in the meals before the race. Avoid heavy or hard-to-digest meals in the hours prior.
  • During the race: If the race is long, you can take small sips of water or isotonic drinks at the hydration stations. If it’s a shorter race, hydrating before and after may be enough.

3. Rest and Recovery.

Rest is just as important as training:

  • Restorative sleep: Sleeping well in the days before the race is key. Good rest will help you perform better and feel more motivated.
  • Active recovery: After the race, engage in active recovery, like walking or light jogging, to help your muscles eliminate lactic acid and reduce stiffness.

4. Proper Gear.

The equipment you use can make a big difference in your performance and comfort:

  • Proper footwear: Invest in good running shoes that suit your stride and offer good support and cushioning. Incorrect footwear can lead to discomfort and injuries.
  • Breathable clothing: Opt for clothing made of technical materials that allow breathability and avoid sweat build-up. Avoid cotton, as it tends to retain moisture.
