We invite you to participate in the Madrid Spring Race, Community of Madrid 2025, Year of the Snake, which will take place on February 9th in person in Madrid and from February 1st to 9th virtually, wherever you are.

The race is part of the Madrid Spring Festival, which will also take place in Xi’an, China, from April 4th to 6th, 2025.

In both cases, in-person or virtual, you can choose the distance you want to participate in: 5K, 8K, or 16K.

The 5K option is perfect to complete with family or friends, either walking or running. The 8K is for those aged 16 and older, and the 16K is for those 18 and older.

All participants will be entered into a raffle for various prizes and can win rewards by participating in different activities.

If you take part in the race, you’ll have the chance to obtain the Snake Medal, and if you participate for twelve consecutive years, you can complete the horoscope.

Horoscope? Why that?

According to legend, the Yellow Emperor wanted to choose twelve animals to be part of the imperial court’s guard and organized a race: those who arrived first would have a higher rank.

  • The cat asked the rat to wake him up, but the rat forgot, which is why the cat is not part of the zodiac.
  • The ox was about to arrive first, but the rat, who wanted to take the first spot, climbed on the ox’s back and thus secured first place.
  • The tiger and the dragon were assigned as gods of the mountain and the sea, which placed them behind the rat and the ox.
  • However, the rabbit wanted a higher rank, so it overtook the dragon and obtained fourth place.
  • The dog, who had bitten the rabbit, was punished with the second-to-last rank.
And that’s how the order known today was established: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the pig.
